Our Philosophy & Strategies

At the heart of our ministry, Kakamega Yearly Meeting is deeply committed to the Quaker Testimonies— timeless values that shape who we are and how we serve. These principles are not just beliefs; they are actions we live by every day. Being rooted in the belief that there is that of God in everyone, we seek to reflect Christ’s love through:

Quaker core values
(S.P.I.C.E.S)

Simplicity

Quakers believe in living simply by focusing on what is essential and removing distractions that keep us from God and from loving one another. Simplicity does not mean poverty, but freedom from greed, materialism, and waste. It calls us to use resources wisely, speak with clarity, and live in a way that reflects spiritual depth rather than outward display.

Peace

The Peace Testimony is one of the best-known Quaker values. Friends believe that violence and war are inconsistent with God’s will. Instead, we seek nonviolent ways to resolve conflicts, promote reconciliation, and act as peacemakers in our communities and the wider world. Quakers work for justice and equality as foundations for true peace.

Integrity

Quakers hold that truthfulness and honesty are central to the spiritual life. Integrity means consistency between belief and action, being the same person in private as in public. It means keeping promises, being trustworthy, and avoiding deceit. Integrity challenges us to live authentic lives, where faith is reflected in daily choices.

Community

Quakers understand that faith is lived out in community, not in isolation. We value supporting and caring for one another, recognizing that we are stronger when we walk together. Community calls us to share our gifts, meet the needs of others, and extend hospitality and fellowship beyond our own circles into the wider world.

Equality

The Equality Testimony affirms that every person has worth because we are all children of God. Friends reject discrimination based on race, gender, class, or background, and instead promote fairness and justice. Equality calls us to stand against oppression and ensure that every voice, especially those of the marginalized, is heard and respected.

Stewardship

Quakers believe we are caretakers of God’s creation. Stewardship means using resources responsibly, caring for the earth, and considering future generations in our decisions. This value challenges us to live sustainably, reduce waste, and protect the natural world as an expression of love for God and for our neighbors.
